Product Details
This Salt & Light Linoleum print was inspired by Matthew 5:13-16
13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
I was sitting in church when the idea came to me. The verses themselves have so much imagery in them, but I chose just those two words and wanted to work with them. I knew I wanted sunbeams and the sea, what better way to represent salt than the ocean? After a few (or 5) sketches, it hit me, the sun needed to look like it was coming out from behind clouds. Once I figured that out, the rest fell into place. From idea, to sketch, to print, it turned out better than I'd imagined.
I used all archival materials to ensure this artwork lasts a long time. This art is an original hand print. Printed with Gamblin oil based relief ink on Strathmore paper.
